Appetizer Recipes Without Worry
Planning to have a party for a special occasion or holiday? Terrific! Have you decided what to feed your guests? You can spend a large part of your budget on food, or you can keep it simple. Whatever sounds best to you, your guests can leave happy and contented with a full belly of delicious food.
Do you want to host a sit down meal or do a potluck? Perhaps you would prefer just to serve finger foods. Whatever plan you go with, you need to balance the time you need to spend cooking and the time you can spend enjoying your party. Most people agree that it is no fun to throw a party and then miss the whole thing because you are stuck in the kitchen. Everyone wants to visit with his or her guests.
One of the best things you can do for yourself when you are planning for a party is start preparing the food as early as possible. No, you do not need to get up at 4am. Foods that can be reheated or refrigerated should be made a day or two before your gathering. If you are doing appetizers, put them on their platters under saran wrap or in large covered containers until the day of your party. For sit down meals, a large roast or turkey can sit out and rest after cooking while you take care of the last minute details.
If you are doing a potluck, you may need to reheat some of the food your guests are contributing. You may also want to consider catering a small part of the meal like the main entrée and then you can prepare the side dishes if you want a sit down meal without doing a potluck. Include your guests by asking them to bring their own plates and cutlery… not only will you have a colorful table, but you can diminish a lot of the clean up this way, too.
Be sure to have plenty of variety in your appetizer recipes and other dishes. Perhaps the date your best friend brings is vegetarian and you are a confirmed meat eater, or vice versa. There should be something for everyone. This principle can be applied to any type of party meal, whether it is a full-blown sit down dinner or a hefty selection of finger foods.
Even if you are planning a sit down dinner, put out some easy party appetizers for your guests to start on before they sit down. Eating delicious hors d'oeuvres will help them break the ice and start mingling. They can munch and catch up with old friends or make new ones.
Place the food in areas where people can congregate to talk. Place some appetizers on the coffee table and maybe a few more on another table nearby. People will congregate wherever there is food, so make sure they can be comfortable while they snack and visit. Keep them happy with lots to eat and drink for a successful party.
With proper planning, your event should run smoothly. No muss, no fuss. You can relax and enjoy your guests and the great food. Taking the time to prepare ahead of time is well worth the trouble and effort.
